Finding the motivation to stay active at home can be tough, especially when your usual routine has been dramatically changed and you need to find a new one. So where do you even start?
We’re here to help you get back up and running – literally! Check out these home workout exercises and tips!
Make use of household objects
As not everyone is lucky enough to have a home gym or their own weights or gym equipment to hand, you should look to make an investment in some equipment – that’s if you’re dedicated to working out at home!
You can easily buy dumbbells or resistance bands online, or you can get inventive and find ways to make use of household objects. Try using water bottles or other weighted objects! Milk jugs or even bags of sugar can do the job when it comes to weighted workouts. We bet you didn’t expect that one to be one of our isolated workout tips.
Online classes
Since the stay at home guidelines were introduced, there has been a surge in live workout routines across all social media platforms. Your favourite influencers or gym PTs are more likely than ever to be hosting live workout sessions where you can join in from home. A lot of these online workout videos are full of great home workout exercises that are ideal for getting some training in while you’re stuck at home.
If following live workout sessions doesn’t fit in with your work schedule, you can find some great workout videos on social media and/or YouTube where you can follow along in your own time.
Try something new
There is no better time than now to try something you’ve never done before. Switch up your normal routine to stop yourself from getting bored.
How about including pilates or yoga into your day? You may actually find yourself a new hobby. These forms of exercises are a great way to mix things up whilst staying in shape.
Don’t let your nutrition slip
With being at home and having a kitchen full of food readily available, it can be easy to become tempted by snacks. However, this doesn’t mean you should eat everything in sight.
Although it isn’t easy and boredom often has a part to play, do try to stick to your usual eating habits, otherwise your motivation to exercise might also slip.
Find a workout partner
This could be someone in your household to physically exercise with or someone you can connect with over an online video call.
Once you’ve both scheduled a home workout exercise together, it’ll be harder to back out. By buddying up with someone, it is a great way to stay motivated. You’ll be able to encourage one another and perhaps find it easier to stay on track as you won’t be alone!
Set specific goals
This can be a long-term goal to lose a certain amount of weight or even a short-term goal, such as being able to do a handstand or 10 push ups!
By setting yourself a specific goal, this will give you something to work towards and should keep you motivated to keep going.
Change your surroundings
Staring at the same 4 walls everyday can definitely have an affect on you. Try exercising in different locations, such as going for a run in the park!
Sticking to the government guidelines of course, but you’ll be utilising your one hour of outdoor exercise per day.
Don’t forget to include muscle recovery
Now is a greater time than any to invest in some muscle recovery products. By investing in vibrating exercise equipment, such as a vibrating foam roller, you can use your recovery tools to make sure you’re keeping your muscles in the best working order. Try using a foam roller as part of your routine and feel the difference for yourself.
