Tips for working from home

Tips for working from home - Pulseroll

If you’ve never worked from home before, you may be struggling to adapt to the change. While some of us may enjoy spending more time with our families, others might be struggling with sharing a workspace with a significant other. The lines may blur between your work life and home life when you are trying to do both in the same environment, which many of us are finding difficult to manage.

However you’re coping, check out what the Pulseroll team has to say about working from home and some of their working from home tips to help keep yourself productive and motivated.

remote work tips

Create a separate work area

It has been proven that separating your work area from the rest of your home is important for your mental health. You should look to establish an area of your home where you will commit to working every day.

Make sure it’s quiet and comfortable with minimal distractions. This way, you will be able to walk away from ‘work’ when it hits 5pm and have the ability to leave work in that area, so to speak.

Set real work hours

It can be easy to roll out of bed at 9am and sit in bed with a laptop all day. But you'll be so much more productive by sticking to your normal routine as if you were going out to work in the morning.

Of course you can be a bit more flexible, but you’ll benefit more by waking up at your usual time, getting ready for the day, and sitting down at your desk from 9am until 5pm.

Get dressed

We’ve all been tempted to stay in our pyjamas all day! You’ll feel more productive just by getting up, having a shower, and getting dressed. We’ve all heard of the phrase “dress for success” and it can definitely apply to working from home.

Dedicate breaks

Set yourself some break times throughout the day so you don’t overwork yourself. This will make you more productive in general to work when you need to and also take some time to rest. Make sure to give yourself a proper lunch break and eat something healthy to refuel.

Use a planner or to-do list

When you’re working from home and don’t have anyone to answer to, you may find it hard to stay on track throughout the day. Start each work day by setting specific tasks to do and times to get them done. A planner is helpful to stay organised with tasks, meetings, and deadlines.

Exercise and stretch regularly

Exercising regularly naturally boosts endorphins, which increases happiness and productivity. Stretching can stop your muscles from getting tight and you also want to make sure that working from home is not ruining your posture. Basically, it’s important to keep moving! Here are some more tips on how to deal with the aches and pains from working at home.

Try incorporating muscle recovery tools into your daily routine. The Pulseroll massage gun eases muscle soreness and increases circulation, enabling you to keep your muscles in their best working order. It also helps to improve posture when used on the back and shoulders, which will be a great source of comfort when working from home. Or you could try foam rolling stretching exercises, giving your body a well-needed break from being sat down all day.

When working from home, it can be hard to adjust and hard to maintain a proper routine and this is why we decided to put together this helpful (we hope!) list of tips for working from home. We've also got some helpful tips on how to cope with lockdown cabin fever. Happy working!
