Healthy lifestyle

Common everyday ailments, such as gnawing aches and stiffness to debilitating pain and discomfort, are commonplace for most of us. The common root cause of these problems is often poor posture resulting from old injuries, age, lifestyle, and exercise. Putting in the effort to improve your posture has huge payoffs for your body and here are some reasons why:

  • Keeps bones and joints in the correct alignment so muscles are being used properly
  • Helps decrease the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces
  • Decreases the stress on the ligaments holding the joints of the spine together
  • Prevents the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal positions
  • Prevents fatigue because muscles are being used more efficiently, allowing the body to use less energy
  • Prevents backache and muscular pain
  • Contributes to a good overall appearance.

Here’s a quick posture check-in: When sitting, your feet should rest flat on the floor, with even weight on both hips. Your back should be mostly straight – you’ll have natural curves in your lumbar, thoracic, and cervical areas. Your shoulders should be back, but relaxed, and your ears should line up over your collarbones.

Common ailments our kit can help with:

If you have read our previous blogs, you’ll know that our vibrating foam roller and peanut ball has been scientifically studied and proven to increase blood flow and speed up muscle recovery from certain damage. In recent weeks, we have been working with the same scientific team testing how our percussion massage guns affect range of motion. We are happy to say that initial results look very promising so far! With that in mind, you can use our different kits to help with the following health related problems to improve your wellbeing.

Reduce back ache and tension headaches

The average person sits for 10-12 hours a day! Most commonly, at an office desk, watching TV, surfing the web…..

This prolonged sitting leads to tight hip flexors (legs), which can cause lower back pain. Your head also weighs a whopping 4-5kg so leaning over phones and laptops all days gives us ‘tech neck’, stiffness, and reduced range of motion in the neck and shoulder muscles. This can lead to tension headaches, poor productivity, and reduced wellbeing.

Use our new percussion massage gun on the quadriceps to improve their muscle length and release tension on the lower back.

Additionally, try applying some vibration with our vibrating foam roller on the lower back to improve blood flow.

Tension headaches can be attacked with some Pulseroll muscle gun therapy on the upper back to improve range of motion and/or our vibrating peanut ball on the neck muscles to boost blood flow.

Increase energy levels and help with depression

When your bones and joints are in correct alignment, it allows the muscles to function as they’re intended. This means you will have less fatigue and subsequently more energy as the muscles don’t have to work so hard to do what they’re supposed to do.

Use our Pulseroll muscle gun to increase joint range of motion by helping return muscles to their normal length. Improving posture in this way has been shown to increase energy and overall subjective feelings of wellbeing.

Decreased risk of abnormal wearing of the joint surfaces

Crooked sitting, prolonged standing, or continuous poor movement patterns at work can wear your joints down naturally over time. If your posture is even, you are less likely to get injured or suffer these chronic problems.

Activate your hamstrings and glutes for overall flexibility using our vibrating peanut ball. Just 3 minutes therapy per day has been proven to be effective!

The knees and ankles can often take a beating. Use our vibrating foam rollers since these have been proven to increase circulation around the knee, encouraging proper joint alignment and increasing range of motion.

Plantar Fasciitis

Your plantar fascia is a large piece of connective tissue underneath your foot that supports the arch of your foot and absorbs shock when you walk.

Increased tension and stress here can cause small tears. Repeated stretching and tearing can irritate or inflame the fascia, although the cause remains unclear and it can develop without obvious cause. However, we do know of some factors that increase your risk of developing this condition:

  • Age – As you get older, your connective tissue is less flexible and any injures or inflammation issues generally take longer to recover from
  • Exercise – Activities that place a lot of stress on your heel and calf muscles, such as running, cross fit, and dance, all contribute to the onset of plantar fasciitis
  • Biomechanics –Flat feet, a high arch, or even an abnormal pattern of walking can affect the way weight is distributed when you’re standing up and can put added stress on the plantar fascia. High heels, flip flops, or any shoes that are not properly fitted can create a problem over time
  • Obesity – Carrying excessive body weight over long periods of time puts extra stress on your plantar fascia
  • Work – Occupations where you are on your feet for long periods of time can be problematic. Factory workers, teachers, and others who spend most of their work hours walking or standing on hard surfaces can damage the plantar fascia.

Ignoring plantar fasciitis may result in chronic heel pain that hinders your regular activities and ultimately affects your wellbeing. You might compensate by changing the way you walk as a way to relieve plantar fasciitis pain, which can then lead to secondary problems, such as foot, knee, hip, or back issues.

We suggest using the Pulseroll peanut ball or muscle gun on the underneath of your foot to relieve tension directly on the tissue. Additionally, work over the calf with any of our products as keeping the correct length in this muscle is important.

Finally, if you do suffer already, then you can use our vibrating foam roller and muscle gun to work those secondary tight areas to release tension, increase blood flow, and range of motion like the back and hips.
