What is arthritis?

Arthritis is a common condition that causes pain and inflammation in a joint and affects people of all ages, including children.

There are different types of arthritis’s, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid are the 2 most common type.

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis in the UK and most often develops in people in their mid-40s or older and more common in women and people with a family history of the condition, osteoarthritis makes movement more difficult than usual, leading to pain and stiffness. It can occur at any age as a result of an injury or be associated with other joint related conditions, such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis.

Another type of arthritis is Rheumatoid arthritis, this often starts when a person is between 40 and 50 years old. Women are 3 times more likely to be affected than men, the body's immune system targets affected joints, which leads to pain and swelling.

Symptoms of arthritis

The symptoms you experience will vary depending on the type of arthritis that you have, some symptoms of arthritis would be joint pain, tenderness, stiffness, inflammation in and around the joints, weakness and muscle wasting and many more! The most commonly affected joints are those in the hands, spine, knees and hips.

Treating arthritis

Sadly, there is no cure for arthritis, but there are many treatments that can help slow it down which include lifestyle changes, medicines and surgery.

Science

We need to explain some complex science before we can show you how our products can help, but our sports science team are great and will help you understand, continue reading to find out more!

• Muscle weakness and wasting of muscle is often observed in patients with arthritis.

• From research, we know this is partly caused by the nerves connected to the muscle around the joint to stop working properly, a process known as arthrogenic muscle inhibition.

• When the muscles surrounding the joint become inhibited, this leads to tightness and loss of mass /function which is the bodies way of protecting the joint.

• Unfortunately, this leads to reduced range of motion (flexibility) which in turn affects lifestyle, health and wellbeing.

There are a lot of magic in the pulseroll products, if you’ve missed our previous blogs, you might not know that our vibrating foam rollers and massage guns have been scientifically proven to increase blood flow and range of motion (flexibility) in joints and muscles!

Luckily some other clever scientists figured out that local vibration (like our products), reverses some of this arthrogenic muscle inhibition. By using pulseroll vibrating products you can fire the muscles around the joint back into action, so you are able to undertake some strength exercise to build the muscles back up.

Our massage guns have also been proven increase range of motion so these can be used to loosen off all those tight muscles! Slowly over time you can build up some strength and flexibility in the joint and improve your health and well being.
