What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is a common condition that causes pain and inflammation in a joint.

There are many types of arthritis, but the most common is osteoarthritis. This is a degenerative condition often caused by the normal aging process, but it can occur at any age as a result of an injury or other diseases.

The common symptoms are pain, decreased joint range of motion (ROM) and stiffness, muscle weakness and swelling. Any of these symptoms can be present at the same time which leads to physical disability which can sadly affect your daily life and mental wellbeing.

The most commonly affected joints are those in the:

  • hands
  • spine
  • knees
  • hips

At what age can it affect a person / How many people does it affect worldwide?

Osteoarthritis affects more than 500 million people worldwide, which is approximately 7% of the global population and is the 5th most common disability.

Commonly, it develops in people in their mid-40s, but by age 60 scientists believe that 15 % of all people have some form of arthritis. Arthritis tends to be more common in women and people with a family history of the condition.

Currently there is no cure for osteoarthritis, but we can manage the symptoms which improves mobility and health and fitness.

Does Percussion therapy help reduce Arthritis/ Does it reduce the pain of arthritis and HOW?

massage gun

To understand how our percussion gun can help improve arthritis, we first need to dive into the science, but we promise to keep it simple!

As there is no cure for osteoarthritis, treatments currently focus on management of symptoms. The predominant symptoms are pain, a decreased joint range of motion (ROM) and stiffness. When the joint becomes inflamed the body responds by reducing nervous stimulation in the joint. Simply put, this reduces usage of the joint where possible and is known as ‘atherogenic muscle inhibition’.

In addition to this automatic body response, it is a natural to want to protect the joint yourself, but this leads to muscle weakness and atrophy (the muscles literally waste away) in the muscles around that joint. Over time this leads to reduced range of motion (ROM) and finally poor prognosis for lifestyle, health and wellbeing.

So how can Pulseroll technology help?

Previous research by other scientific teams has shown that local vibration can reduce the body’s natural protective response known as ‘atherogenic muscle inhibition’.

When scientists applied vibration in and around the joint it helped maintain natural movement and reduce muscle weakness and muscle wastage. Our Pulseroll vibrating rollers can deliver this therapy right into the problem areas and have also been scientifically proven increase blood flow and oxygenation up to 22%!

We have also conducted an in-house study measuring how effective our percussion guns are at reducing tight muscles and found a 14.7% increase joint range of motion (ROM).

Can it treat this condition in the long term and is it a sustainable treatment?

In summary, arthritis is common and there is no definitive cure. The good news is we can help manage it and improve your health, fitness and wellbeing!

Our vibrating foam rollers can help reduce the body’s natural protective response, which should allow more movement within your joint which helps to maintain good muscle health. Long term this leads to improved health and wellbeing.

Our percussion gun technology has been shown to improve joint range of motion (ROM) by up to 14.7 %. This is always a big problem for arthritis sufferers so regular treatment with our gun can free up the muscles, which allows better movement. Once you have this improved range of motion then you can work on strengthening the muscles in gym and further improve the condition.
